Cut The Contract With The Cable Company

Last post we suggested you cut the cable/dish.  If you have done this or are considering doing so here are our suggestions to staying entertained.  Frugal living doesn't have to be a boring life.

  1. You can still watch your movies with Redbox. At less than $1.50 a movie this is a decent value for watching your favorite movies.  Especially with the rising cost of theater movies.  Plus throw this line in google "redbox coupon codes."  There are always an abundance of free movie rental codes through redbox.
  2. Remember those community buildings filled with books? They still exist.  Visit your local library and pick up hours of free entertainment. My local library has a system where I can borrow books through the library on my Kindle.
  3. Netflix is also a good value for the options you get and at a fraction of a cost of cable. Everytime we think we have went through everything there is to see on Netflix we find a show that we end up binge-watching.
  4. We also trade movies back and forth with members of our family.  It is possible you could set up a movie exchange with your friends and neighbors.
Share with us your ideas for saving money while providing entertainment for your family.

Top Ten Ways To Save Money 2015

Saving a few dollars a day is not that hard.  A little effort can go a long ways to saving you big money down the line.  Try a few of these tips and see what your savings can be.

  1. Make your own laundry detergent-  Really guys this one is so simple and the savings are immense.  Buy one box of Borax, one box of baking powder, one box of washing soda, and four bars of Fels-Naptha.  Break the bars down into slivers in a food processor or grater.  Mix all the ingredients and stir them together really well.  Use 1/4 cup in each load and rack up the savings.  In our grocery department all of these ingredients are in the same area.  This usually costs us around $13.00 and last twice as long as when we were buying laundry detergent.
  2. Get online coupons- Go to a name brand's website. Look for a newsletter or coupon offers.  Sign up for their newsletter or coupons to get manufacturer coupons.  Little hint here, if you want more than one coupon create multiple accounts using different email address.  I have an email address dedicated to coupons because you will become overwhelmed with deals and offers if you don't create a separate account.
  3. You don't need cable-  Believe me you can still watch your shows and not have a cable contract eating your every dime month to month.  Some people pay more per month for television then they do for their vehicle payments. Every day more and more streaming services come online.  For $35 you can get a Google Chromecast and stream shows, movies, and events. Break your dependency and find alternatives.
  4. Find a new bank-  Many banks now offer to reimburse you for ATM fees.  If yours does not look for one that does! One online bank I use is ALLY. They reimburse your ATM fees and their customer service has been superb.  Also look for credit unions in your area as they many times can offer you better loan rates.
  5. Never buy disposable razors-  My experience with disposable razors has left me bleeding after only one or two uses.  Buy your razors at a warehouse store or try Dollar Shave Club. Ladies, just because the men's razors aren't pink doesn't mean they don't work just as well.  Buy the razor at the best price not because you like purple. This can save you a fortune a year because razors have skyrocketed in price.
  6. Sign up for Rewards- Just about every store you go into now has a customer rewards program. These programs can save you a lot of money.  Our local grocery store is Kroger and we can load eCoupons onto the card.  Some grocery chains even allow you to stack the eCoupon on top of your paper coupon for supreme savings.
